Back in 2008 I wrote about Ug99, an alarming strain of stem rust fungus that has evolved the ability to attack rust-resistant wheat. At the time, its wind-borne spores had spread as far west as Iran from the fields in Uganda where it first evolved. Now, Nature News reports that it's shown up in South Africa, too.
