Eye on Chicago
The 2008 University of Chicago Scavenger Hunt list was released earlier today. By now the road trippers are well on their way to Kansas, and Chicago-based members of the teams are knocking themselves out learning to play the Flight of the Bumblebee on plastic recorders (#29) and building really big baking-soda volcanoes (#21), among other things. I hope someone films all the BMX stunt crashes through the stained-glass sugar windows (#130) and puts them on YouTube. Can't wait for Judgment Day...

Oh, lord, I am having a crisis of nostalgia like you wouldn't believe. I was THERE during Snell-Hitchcock's rise to dominance. I helped to sculpt the Picasso out of Spam, and threw up in my mouth a little as a good friend secured the second item by eating said sculpture, Q-tips and all.

I have to admit, back in 1986 when we were all sitting around a table in Hutch Commons and laughing our heads off about the things we were going to make people look for, we never expected that it would go on this long.
